Trading session: what and when to trade on the exchange

A trading session means a period of time during which banks and trading floors located within the same geographical area actively trade in currency pairs. Based on these trades, changes in the value of world currencies occur.

There are 4 main trading sessions:

• pacific;
• Asian;
• European;
• American.

The Pacific and Asian sessions open on Sunday late in the evening Moscow time. Most trades in the Asian market are held on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. The European session opens at 9:00 Moscow time. Most trading takes place on the London Stock Exchange. The American session begins a few hours before the close of trading in Europe. Most deals are made on the New York Stock Exchange.

Most Russian and international traders are interested in European and American trading sessions, in which NASDAQ, NYSE, LSE and other large exchanges in the USA and Europe work. The greatest activity is observed from 10 to 12 days and from 16 to 18 in the evening.

During the trading session, traders most often enter into transactions with the following currency pairs: EUR / USD, USD / JPY, USD / CHF and GBP / USD.
